I am a Professional Full Time Photographer in Cape Town, servicing the whole of Western Cape. I have a heart for families, pregnant parents, precious babies and children and there is nothing I love more than to see my clients faces light up when they see their loved ones on images that will be treasured and displayed for all to see. I love working with families who are head over heals in love with their lives. The natural smiles and the bottom belly laughs, those are the moments that will be remembered. To capture these moments, the quite solitude, the chaos in between, it all creates a beautiful masterpiece of what life is. Photographs are so much more than just pretty pictures. They are tangible memories from when time stood still, proof that you lived your life, in all it’s glory. Images that will be treasure and adored for years to come.

My passion is capturing and sharing “once in a lifetime” moments for clients to treasure for their lifetime and also for generations to come! I am a mother of 2 and though seeing how fast my children grow and develop their own unique personalities, I’ve realized just how important it is to capture every moment. If anything, we need to gather memories, in the form of photos, so we can reminisce one day about these forgotten times.

Newborn Art – “My aim is providing boutique, timeless imagery. Turning every moment into a memory and every memory into art. Babies are so special to everyone, and being a mother myself, I realise how fast they grow up and how important it is to capture as much as possible from newborn, to baby to toddler. Every little memory is precious. Even little details like their tiny toes, the tip of their nose, their itsy bitsy tiny fingers. It brings me so much joy!”

Jess has always loved babies! Once upon a time she was a midwife and well-baby nurse. The arrival of two little cherubs interrupted that chapter in her life. While raising her babies, she was bothered by a smouldering need to be creative. This inspired her to follow her dreams into newborn photography. Now that her own babies are bigger, she thrives on spending time working with new families and capturing images for them to treasure (it also allows her to address her baby cravings for which her husband is very grateful!).

Life is a precious gift from God. A fleeting miracle. Flashing by way too fast. Every so often we have the privilege of experiencing a special moment. One that is out of the ordinary. That we wished time would slow down for… just a little. But everyday life too has its moments of awe – a new life, a first step, a new love – when we yearn to stay in the moment… just for a while.
We love to help you treasure those moments. To help you remember. To take you back to that time.
A husband and wife team, Waldo and Marti-Mari, we are both very passionate about photography. Something we share and have a growing love for. And although we both love it, we definitely each have a very unique approach to it. We each have an unique interest in it. We are probably as different as two people can be. And it shows. But that is one of the things that makes us such a good team when it comes to our photography. We see the world very differently. We experience it differently. We view it differently. And as a result the same scene is captured from different, but complementary perspectives.
About the name… “Living Light” is both a play on words and the way that we hope to approach life. Light is probably the single most important factor when it comes to photography. It is the one thing that it all revolves around. The one thing that you absolutely cannot do without. We are also called to be the light the world. And photography is possibly one of the most tangible ways of doing that. Of capturing. And giving. And showing love.
Becoming first time parents ourselves in 2015 – I (Marti-Mari) have a special interest in newborn photography and have recently been focusing on newborn, child and family photography. Although it has been a growing passion for years, it has taken me nearly as long to take the leap to a more serious venture into photography. Having completed a BSc. degree in Architecture, a B. Consumer Science degree in Housing and a postgraduate diploma in Marketing and Advertising Communications Management, I have always been a creative. An artist at heart – expressing myself in images and words. From the school girl whose favourite subject was art, photography was a natural progression. During my time as a student at Stellenbosch University, I explored my interest in photography by completing a Photography diploma course at Boland College. During my Architecture studies at the University of Pretoria, black and white film photography and development was part of the curriculum for one of my subjects. In the interim I have been busy with a host of other things. But the photography spark was once again ignited for me, when Waldo and I completed Photography and Lightroom courses together.
